On Friday, we wanted to go on a little date so we picked up some delicious, gourmet, dinner from Wendy's (we're poor college students...don't judge us too harshly) and drove up to this amazing park bench which overlooks the valley. When we got up there, the bench was already occupied by another couple. So we decided to wait. Obviously, it is really awkward to park right behind the bench and 'wait our turn' so we parked on the side of the road behind a fence. So while we were waiting we started pulling out our burger and fries (actually we devoured all our fries before we ever made it to the other side of town) because we were totally STARVING and it was already 7:30 and getting dark. Next thing we know the car behind us flips their headlights on and drives away. So we get out of our car and tip-toe over to the edge of the fence so we can peek at the bench...totally empty! SA-WEET! We take what is left of our food and finish it off as we look out at this...

Pretty awesome, don't ya think?! Then we discussed how awesome it would be if we could build a house up on the hill and get to see this view all the time without 'waiting our turn' for the bench. As the sun continued to set, we somehow started to discuss what we would do if a wild animal just showed up in front of us. Deer: we'd stay right where we were, maybe even try to pet it. Mountain Lion: Run for our lives!!!!!...maybe leave the remainder of our hamburger to slow it down. ha ha...we think we are SO funny! We didn't stay much longer after that......just in case!
Then on Sunday morning we finally noticed the trees right outside our door! They are so pretty this time of year...if only winter could stay away until December 24th...if only....

I guess Logan isn't TOO bad.......yet! HA. The past two years I have missed out on the season Fall because in St. George there isn't a lot of trees that change colors. But, this year we are enjoying every second of Fall up here in Logan!

Guess who turned 25?!?

Well folks, it sure wasn't me! Sam turned the BIG two-five! He wasn't quite sure how he felt about taking that leap...but ready or not, October 8th still made its way. His birthday was quite the adventure. It happened to fall on a Saturday this year, so he was spoiled as he slept in until 10. (During the week he gets up at 6 a.m. to go to work) We then enjoyed a DELICIOUS hot breakfast together in Lisa's Kitchen. (If you haven't been there...you're not missing much cause I'm a terrible cook!) Then the moment Sam had been waiting for....opening his presents!! I'd love to take the credit and say that I picked everything out for him...but don't let his surprised looks fool you...he ordered his own presents the week before! Ha ha

He couldn't have been more excited about his Tennessee Titans Shirt!

He's still a goofball, even at 25 years old!

When you turn 25 you start wanting a wireless keyboard!

A table for our 'office'...it was hidden in the trunk of my car!

After the unveiling of the gifts we headed to the movie theater where Sam had been DYING to see the last Harry Potter show! After the show we quickly ate dinner and headed to the Utah State football game. This was Sam's most favorite part of his birthday because the Aggies pulled out a WIN! Sam seems to think that they won because it was his birthday that ....we'll let him continue to think that!

The student section! So...that's exactly what he got. Next weekend you can find us hanging out with these guys. We are super excited too! Check out this song because you're going to love it, if you don't already!

Random side note....As soon as October hit Sam kept saying 'can you believe I'm going to be 25 in a week?' I could tell he was quite concerned about it....and then two days before his birthday I totally pulled a gray hair out of his head! It's official....he's getting old! Happy Birthday Sammer, I sure love ya!

Summer Lovin!

Wow, time sure flies by when your having fun! Sam and I have been super busy this summer, allow me to update you!
We moved out of my parents house!!! Sam had to pry me outta there, but I'd been away from home for 2 YEARS! I thought maybe we'd make up lost time....Sam thought differently ;) We now are living in Logan in a little town home. Sam is staying REALLY busy going to school at USU working on his masters degree and he is working at Fedex and at Thompson lighting and appliances. I am staying busy working as a Hygienist in a office in the lovely, city of Brigham and Logan! I am also doing online classes through Dixie to finish up my Bachelor degree. Although, we did manage to find a little weekend adventure here and there this summer!

We decided we wanted to go visit our good friends Kristy and Bryson in Jackson Hole. They live at the KOA during the summer, so they had the HOOK-UPS. ( Seriously, Kristy if Social Work doesn't suit your fancy, maybe you should be a travel agent!:))
We arrived in Jackson late Friday night but didn't fully realize how AWESOME our tent spot was. This is what we woke up to. Blue skies, tall trees, and the relaxing sound of the Snake river.

This was our awesome tent spot! The river was just to the left of the tent about 6 feet!

Of course we had to try out the river!

This is us with Kristy and one of the BEST river guides (Kristy's hubby) Bryson!

Quick little recap on our adventure on the river. I'd never river rafted before so I was way excited and maybe a little nervous.....ok I was REALLY nervous! So we get on the bus to head to the river and the wind starts blowing and it suddenly decided to start raining! Great....So at this point I had to keep asking Kristy if this was still a good idea! She felt VERY confident that we were fine... So we get in the boat and I sit right behind Sam where we were supposed to paddle. The river guide gives us a quick run down of how to get through big waves. His number one advice was 'when we hit the waves, make sure you keep paddling no matter what'. I felt pretty confident in our crew on the boat we had two really muscular guys in the front and I was positive they'd keep up afloat. Well the first big wave comes and instantly I fall into the middle of the boat and Sam wasn't too far behind. I start yelling and pushing Sam saying 'GET PADDLING SAM!!!!' (Even though I wasn't paddling either). This same episode happened numerous times. Plus, our two big muscular guys weren't much help during the trip either.. Seems like they were just as scared as the rest of us! I guess we showed that river guide that he didn't need us to paddle to get through the big waves after all. But, we made it down the river safely. Thanks Kris for paddling through it all. Sorry we weren't much help to ya! Whew. I'll do it again....maybe.

Next adventure we went camping with my family at Lava Ranch! This is Sam and Rex going off the rope swing. Sam loves going down to the bottom of the mountain on the four wheeler's and going off the swing. Every now and then he can talk someone into going off it with him! Doesn't that water look so clean?! Ugh..

Our first anniversary! We decided for our anniversary that we'd keep it simple and fun. So we went down to Draper and went to lunch with our friends Lauren and Chase. It was so good to see them again. We have missed them since we moved home from St George. Then we went and got hour long massages. It. Was. Wonderful. Then after we were very relaxed we went to the Draper Temple. Then we went to dinner at P.F. Chang's. Our anniversary was on a Saturday so it was great to have a day off of work to spend with each other!

Last but definitely not least.....LOTS of boating trips. Sorry the quality of this picture isn't wonderful...we weren't expecting Sam to pull his SPEEDO out! Sam is very proud of his pin striped speedo....I. am. not. He introduced my family to this worn out, stretched out, speedo this summer while he was wake boarding. I just hear my dad say 'uh what is he wearing'. I just shake my head...my mom laughs til she cries (poor mom), Julie laughs and snaps a picture with her phone, and Katie was probably mortified.

Overall, we had a pretty darn fantastic summer. It was great to spend it having BBQ's, boating days, parades, raspberry days, and of course, visiting family. :)

What We've Been Up To Lately

Well, just in case anyone was wondering, we are still alive. The past few moths have been pretty busy as we've worked to finish our classes and wrap things up in St. George. Here's an attempt to bring everyone up to speed.

We must begin with a small confession. We made a couple trips to Mesquite with some friends to play a little Bingo. We even got lucky and won a couple times. But rest assured, we promise we ARE NOT addicted! :)

Sam played on a city league basketball team with some kids he worked with. They had some struggles during the season, but started winning at the right time and managed to win the tournament. Lisa was the #1 fan!

We loved our time down in St. George, but unfortunately spent much of it busy with school and work. We decided that we needed to get out and explore all the neat places around us before we had to leave town. We were amazed at how many cool things were almost literally in our backyard.

We found this crazy narrow crack between two rocks that we had to squeeze through.

One of the things we will not miss about St. George is being far away from our families on holidays. We were lucky enough to come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we also missed out on a lot of family gatherings for other holidays. Luckily, we had some good friends who were in the same boat as us so we all got together and celebrated Easter together by dying eggs.

Of course, the main reason we were in St. George was for school. Lisa's dental hygiene program kept her very busy as she prepared for all her boards down the stretch. She was very relieved when she walked out of her final clinical board, so we knew it was time to celebrate. Off to McDonald's we went for her favorite ice cream cones!

Then came the day we'd been waiting for - GRADUATION!!!! It was pretty cool for us to both be able to graduate on the same day. Lisa graduated from the dental hygiene program at Dixie State, and Sam graduated with his bachelor's degree in human resource management from Utah State. That did present a little problem, however, because our graduation activities were on opposite ends of the state. Lisa's graduation was a bigger deal so we decided to stay in St. George so she could get all the attention she deserved. We were so glad to have our families come down to celebrate this special time with us. The party started with the pinning ceremony with her program.

The next day she donned the cap and gown and looked quite marvelous. The big school-wide commencement ceremony featured a very special guest. It was Dixie's 100th anniversary, and President Thomas S. Monson was the keynote speaker for the event. It was a very special opportunity to listen to such an inspirational man.

THE GRADUATES!!!!!

After all the festivities were over, the work of moving home began. We had a stroke of luck as both of Lisa's neighbor's just happened to be in St. George that weekend with trucks. They helped get our washer, dryer, and bed packed up and back to Brigham, which made it so we didn't have to rent a U-haul. Thank goodness!!! Then we had to find a way to get all this junk into the remaining cars.

Fortunately, we had many hands that helped to make the process go quickly. Once all that work was done, we were free to play all day Saturday. We decided to head to Zion and hike Angel's Landing. Both sets of parents were a bit apprehensive about it, but all nine of us made it to the top and back!

After getting back and relaxing by the pool for a while, we headed into town to watch the finish line at the St. George Ironman. This was such a cool experience! There were thousands of people packed into bleachers cheering on the runners as they crossed the finish line. For those who aren't familiar, the Ironman competition is a 2.4-mile swim, then a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a full 26.2-mile marathon. Surprisingly, the finishers had a lot of life in them as they came down the stretch.

After all the festivities, it was time to leave town. What started out as a temporary stop for school had become our first home, and we were sad to leave St. George. We made some good friends and had some great experiences, and will always be grateful for the time we spent there. Now we're living with Lisa's parents in Brigham City. Lisa just got her board results and passed all her exams, so that deserves a big WOOT! She can now apply for her license and apply for jobs as a bona fide dental hygienist. Sam was recently informed of his acceptance into the master's program for human resource management at Utah State University. We're looking forward to being back in Logan as we begin the next chapter in our lives.

Tests and Vegas

A couple weekends back we went down to Vegas with some friends to take these big nasty tests we'd been wasting our lives studying for. We had some unplanned excitement to start off the weekend. We got there and Lisa was trying to check in to the hotel but she couldn't find her license. We got a bit worried, since she needed it for her ID on the test the next morning. We got to the room and essentially tore the entire place apart looking for it. After about 20 minutes, in which I was dead set on driving all the way to St. George and back just to get the license, we realized she had given it to me earlier in the week to have it copied for a scholarship application. Sure enough, there it is in my book bag. Crisis avoided. Fortunately, the weekend only got better from there. We both passed our tests, we went to the Las Vegas temple, and we just enjoyed seeing the sights and having fun.

This was the view from our room on the 11th floor.

Las Vegas temple

The Bellagio fountain show

We were thinkin' it was a good thing Rex wasn't there, cuz he has a little bit of history with these fellas.

You can't go to Vegas without eating at the Cheesecake Factory!

Turns out the Coca-Cola bear is a bit of a creeper. We're both pretty busy as we are both finishing school this semester. We look forward to being done and heading back up north! Part of the work to finish is preparing for some big, ugly, no fun tests coming up. Lisa has her written board for dental hygiene in two weeks, and Sam is taking the GMAT the day after. So when we're not working or doing homework, we're just sitting around studying our lives away. One minor consolation is that the tests have to be taken at a testing center in Las Vegas, so we do get a little bit of a vacation out of it. That is, if you can call going to Vegas to take big tests that you have to pass in order to graduate and move on "taking a vacation" then yes, we're going on vacation. We just hope we'll still be alive after our tests to have some fun and enjoy ourselves!

Holiday Recap

We hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas! We loved our first Christmas together, even though we had to make numerous trips back and forth from Ogden and Brigham so that we could share this special time with both families. But all in all, Christmas couldn't have been better.

On Christmas Eve we had the opportunity to participate in a Sub for Santa with the Marcheschi family and a few other families in the Forest Green ward. This has become a fun Christmas Eve tradition over the last ten years or so. A family friend provides us with a list of families in inner city Ogden that we help. All the money used is donated from the families participating. Everyone participating gets a slip with the name of a child, along with the child's age, clothing sizes, needs, and wants. We each receive an allotment to shop for our child with. Then it's off to Target - where the magic happens!

While we go around shopping for our kid, the parents shop for groceries, diapers, and those kinds of things as well as presents for the parents of the families.

Lisa and I, along with a friend of ours from the ward, got to shop for a 6-year old boy named Caleb. Lisa had a blast picking out the clothes.

On our slip it said that Caleb is a big fan of some creature named Spongebob Squarepants. You'd be surprised at how many toys are dedicated to such a.....unique and awkward cartoon character. We settled on this box of mini-games like tic tac toe, matching, bingo, and the like.

While shopping for Caleb, the bishop of the ward (who also participates in this with his family) came up to us and said we had more families to provide for. We then had the opportunity to shop for a family of three siblings - a 7 year old girl, a 4 year old girl, and a 2 year old boy. I mostly let Lisa handle the girl stuff.

After loading up our cart with Christmas presents for these four lucky kids, we put the cart in line with all the others and wait while the parents sorted out the insanity. It's about this time each year that I start to feel slightly bad for the poor Target check-out clerk that just happened to be working the aisle to which we all directed our 25+ shopping carts loaded chuck full of stuff. Santa probably gives that individual a little more in the stocking to even things out.

After all that is finished, we head back to the stake center and commence in a massive gift-wrapping extravaganza.

We get enough pizza to feed an army.

These are the gifts we got for one of the little girls we shopped for.

After all the wrapping is finished, we have to make sure they get to the right family. It can get hectic with so many presents, so all the families are color coded to ease this process. After sorting things out, then comes the best part - the delivery! We all caravan to the families' homes and surprise them with their Christmas gifts. I even got to meet this Caleb child I had shopped for, and personally wish him a very Merry Christmas before I ducked out the door and out of his life.

The parents know we're coming, but the kids don't. I like it this way because I love seeing the kids' eyes get wide with excitement. They'd likely been told by their parents that Santa wouldn't be able to come this year, but then all of a sudden they have many presents under their tree with their names on them.

Over the years this Sub for Santa activity has become more and more meaningful to me. In my younger years I saw it as a quicker way to get through the longest day of the year. Christmas Eve always seemed to drag along soooooo slowly, and having this activity take up the majority of the day became a big help. But then I started paying more attention, and was amazed with how much I had been missing. I noticed the happy feeling I had as I imagined the joy this kid would experience as he opened these presents he didn't think were coming. I noticed the tears in the parents' eyes as they were overcome with gratitude for these complete strangers helping them and their family in ways that they were unable to do. I noticed the peace and contentment I felt as I bathed in the warm love of charity and basked in the true meaning of Christmas. This activity once was no more than a necessary distraction on the way to checking off my holiday wish list. But now, Christmas for me would be incomplete without my participation in this very special service.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Sam and I have been married over 2 months now so here is a list of things I have learned about Sam that I NEVER knew while we were dating....
1- He breaths loud. ALL the time. We'll be doing homework and I can count his respiration's without even looking at him.
2- Every time we eat dinner he cleans his plate. I mean he REALLY cleans his plate. He'll take the back of his fork and scrape up every last drop of salad dressing and lick it off his fork.
3- He LOVES salad. He'll eat the main dish, then clean his plate to 'prepare it for the salad'. Then he dumps a large portion of salad on his plate, eats it, cleans his plate again, only to have a second helping of salad.
4- Sam doesn't like ice in his water. Kind of weird since we live in St. George and it's HOT!
5-For the first couple weeks Sam kept putting his wedding ring on his right hand. Then he'd look down at his left hand and freak out cause he thought he lost his ring, only to realize it was on the wrong finger.
6- When we moved into our Sacramento apartment we were unpacking everything and Sam took out a box of Q-tips and put them on the counter. I asked him why he didn't put them in the cupboard next to the sink he replied 'because they need to be easily accessible'. I persisted he put them in the cupboard. Hence, our first 'fight' ;)
7- Sam LOVES candy. Every time we go grocery shopping he asks if we can get some candy.
8- He always asks me what I think he should wear! (secretly I really have NO idea of what he should wear)
9- He gets in these interesting moods where he talks like a little kid, usually consisting of adding letters to the end of words such as 'wadey' which is water, 'pooty' which is computer.
10- The first week when I did laundry I folded up all his clothes and put them on the bed for him to put away...when he got home he RE-FOLDED his laundry and put it away. Now I just leave it in a pile for him to fold when he gets home.

Overall, he's a pretty fun roommate! :) I guess I'll keep him!

Hiking the Narrows

On Labor Day we went with a group of friends to hike the Narrows in Zion National Park. I felt much like Harry Dunn in Dumb & Dumber as I thought to myself, "I expected the Narrows to be a little narrower than this....." But it did get narrower and was quite a place to see. We even found a place where the water was deep enough to go for a brief swim. I say brief because the water was freezing cold!

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AmgpWu0uKKo/TJUoTBYFDLI/AAAAAAAAAIM/YLLtIxEZjCo/s1600/IMG_0069.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; After spending the last year on opposite ends of the state, it is SO nice to be able to spend so much time around her. She is an amazing woman and I love her dearly. The most time we'd spent together in the last year before we got married was about a week at most, so after being here in St. George for a week we both kinda looked at each other and asked, "So aren't you supposed to be going back home now?" We both love that this is home now and that we never have to be apart again. We have so much fun together, and have found that being married really is the best because you get to spend so much time with your best friend.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; He worked long days while I slept in til 10 and kept myself busy while he was away. Here is what we’ve been up to in good ol’ Sacramento!

Our FIRST (homemade) meal. Yum

We did a puzzle. One evening after we played games with some of our friends, we decided we weren't tired yet (it was 11:30pm) so we pulled out this puzzle and worked on it til 2 AM! We were hating our lives the next morning when we got up at 8 to go to church. We didn't have time to work on the puzzle again until Monday when Sam got home for lunch. I continued to work on it til he got home from work that night. After dinner we started on it again and when we were finishing up the last touches of the puzzle we noticed....This puzzle has issues. It was missing FOUR pieces. After all that time and hard work it is MISSING pieces? What the heck. I tried to upload a close up of the puzzle but it was being stubborn so if you look closely you'll notice this puzzle is missing 4 pieces. We took a picture of it anyway...and the next morning when I woke up I noticed two pieces upside down on the floor, blending in with our linoleum. I swept the floor TWICE but the other two pieces still were lost....well not lost. I swear this puzzle came with missing pieces. I mean really, the puzzle was out on the table for TWO days..I bet one of the factory workers stole two VITAL puzzle pieces of our puzzle just to tick us off...and it worked..we were ticked. Anyway, so that puzzle bothers me to say the least...back to business.

I decided to bake a cake. We didn't have any oil so I used melted butter and it still turned out! I got a cake decorating set for our wedding and decided to put it to good use. Originally this cake was going to be a hill with Sam and I standing on it and Sam killing bugs (because that's his job)..but after making the hill and the beginning of a tree (the green random circle) I decided to draw San Fran. So I drew the Golden Gate Bridge (yes, I know the golden gate bridge isn't a teal color...but its all I had!) Then we got Lombard Street on the right, and down on the bottom we have the a couple of the 'Seven Sisters' houses. (drawing Victorian houses with frosting is quite difficult so don't look too closely!)

Another Clark Feast at PF Changs! Didn't expect it to be so intense.... but I am still working on it. Here goes nothin...

Day 1- The newest ~Mr. & Mrs. Marcheschi~
Wow, what an adventure! First of all, I got up at 5:30 AM so I could get my hair done. I grabbed some crackers and juice and headed out the door. About ten minutes before she finished my hair I started to get really hot. My head was pounding, every joint in my body suddenly felt really achy, my face lost all color, and I felt like I might loose my crackers and juice. But, I stuck it out and made it to the end. I went home and laid on the couch....trying my best to not mess up my hair masterpiece. But, time was running short so I packed up my stuff and headed to pick up Sam. We went to the temple and it was such a beautiful day to be wed. It was wonderful to see everyone in the sealing room. I still wasn't feeling very good, but the aches had let up, along with the sweating. Now it was just my stomach, but then again it was probably just nerves. After the ceremony we went to exchange rings and my head was still spinning from everything that had just happened. I went to give Sam my 'left' hand and was soon embarrassed when he told me that was my right hand. So quickly I gave him my REAL left hand and it was a done deal. We're hitched!
Afterwards we headed out of the temple to take pictures and what not, and boy it was hot! I couldn't wait to be done with that! Then we got in my car, and I quickly I laid the seat back to allow my lungs to expand while we drove. Our luncheon was at the Gathering place at Gardner Village. It was absolutely beautiful. We laughed, cried, and listened intently to the great advice that was given!
Our reception that night went smoothly. Everything turned out how we planned. Our families are so wonderful and were willing to help out in every way. We are so blessed to have such great people in our lives.
Overall, I'd say the day was a success. Thanks to everyone who helped. We definitely have the best families in the world. And thanks to everyone who came to our reception. It was amazing to see how many people came to support us on our big day! Life couldn't be any sweeter!

Day 2 ~ Our First Road Trip~
After opening gifts and eating a fantastic frappe we embarked upon our first road-trip together! Next destination - -Winnemuca, Nevada! What?!? You've never been there?!? Don't feel too bad...You're really not missing too much! TRUST ME! We arrived in Winnemuca at about eleven o' clock Saturday night and went straight to burger king to get chicken nuggets! mmmm :)

Day 3 ~How many more hours to Cali~

We woke up early and went to 9:00 Sacrament Meeting. Lovely people there...with mullets! HA! After the meeting we quickly got on the road. Our trusty GPS told us 5 hours til we arrived in San Fransisco. We couldn't wait to get there...little did we know we'd get stuck in THREE traffic jams. That 5 hours turned into a LONG 7 hours! We stayed in a pretty little town called Torino about twenty minutes north of San Fransisco. Sam thought it was necessary to get in touch with the Italian Marcheschi name-so we ate at a delicious Italian restaurant called 'Servino's'. That definitely tasted a lot better than the chicken nugget meal the night before!

Day 4 ~ San Fran ~
What a beautiful place!! Only pictures can begin to do it justice.

Driving over the Golden Gate Bridge! It was more cloudy than we would have liked, but we were still super excited about being on the bridge!

This is one of the roads leading to Lombard Street. It was SO steep we felt like we were going to tip while trying to park.

Us in front of Lombard Street.
